Tax Reform to Support Creative Industries

The Tax Institute has backed NSW’s push for holistic tax reform to better support the arts and culture sector, valued at over $122 billion.
At the Art of Tax Reform Summit held at the Sydney Opera House, experts highlighted how complex tax rules and heavy compliance burdens often hold back artists, performers, and creative SMEs.
A simplified, streamlined tax system could encourage growth, cut red tape, and strengthen Australia’s cultural and small business landscape.
This reform push underscores the vital link between clear tax policy and sustainable industry growth.

Subclass 485 & Skills Assessment Changes
Subclass 485 – Two-Year Grant for Hobart Graduates
From 12 September 2025, higher education graduates who studied and lived in Hobart or surrounding postcodes are now eligible for a two-year Second Post-Higher Education Work (PHEW) stream visa, up from the previous one-year grant.
